The market crash of 1929 had left the automobile market reeling, and the hardest hit companies were those who specialized in luxury and ultra luxury automobiles. The Packard Six was reintroduced for the 1937 model year in an effort to help Packard gain market share in the affordable mid-size family car arena. This segment was hotly contested, and the Packard vied for attention amongst other competitive products from Oldsmobile, Desoto, LaSalle and the like.
